Horses For Adoption
The Wild Horse Project is responsible for rehoming many wild horses in New Zealand, both from the Kaimanawa Ranges and the Far North. As such we often have horses for sale. Here is a selection of what we have available at the moment.
If you're interested in any of the horses listed below please contact us for more info.
Da Vinci
Da Vinci is just a wonderful horse to have around. We’ve used him for trekking, mustering, competing and more. He’s picked up ribbons and much admired in the pleasure ring for his lovely nature and smooth movement. Great to go out on trail rides as he’s sure footed and confident in a group. Goes in a halter or bridle and is sensitive and calm to the aids.

Destiny
Destiny is one of the kindest mares around. She’s also very pregnant to the big black stallion.
Since arriving she’s been incredible to work with. Just an amazing attitude and and kind soft demeanour with a lovely intelligence. If we could, she’d be one that we would keep, as she’s such a clever athletic mare. We can see her going on to be a lovely ridden horse.

Daisy and Dainty
Daisy is a very sweet young mare and has been lovely to do everything with since her arrival in April. She’s well handled, wormed, hard ties, great groundwork, feet trimmed etc. Ready to go on to be a fantastic family pony, once Dainty is weaned and she’s ready to be ridden.
Dainty, although small when he was born in early September, has grown into a strapping young foal with lovely movement and great presence about him.

About Adopting a Horse
With so many horses coming into our care throughout the year, we always have some available for adoption. There are two ways to get a wild horse from us. You can attend an in-person Wild Horse Workshop and adopt and tame your horse from scratch. We do foal handling to mature stallion handling workshops and mentor you through every step of the process. In the end, as long as you pass all the training milestones you can leave with your horse.
The other option is to purchase one of the many already trained horses we have here looking for their next home. We have foals once they are weaned to adult horses of all ages going under saddle. Above we have listed some of the ones we currently have available. However, quite often we have more than what's shown, so if you are after something in particular please get in touch to see what else might be available.
Can't own a horse of your own, but want to sponsor one of ours? We always have horses in need of sponsorship especially pregnant mares which tend to remain in our care the longest. There are plenty of ways to become a sponsor and sometimes we'll even let you name a horse or be involved in its training. If this sounds like something you're interested in please get in touch to find out options.
Note: with so many wild horses coming and going, this page may not always be up to date. You can message us directly or check on Facebook to see what might be available.
